Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 ½ cups (355 ml) of warm water with 2 ¼ teaspoons of active dry yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Mix the dough: Add 3 ½ cups (440 g) all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons salt to the yeast mixture. Drizzle 1 tablespoon olive oil if using. Stir with a wooden spoon or dough scraper until a rough, sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead lightly: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 5 minutes until slightly sticky and elastic. Add minimal flour if too sticky.
