A quick and easy cocktail made with fresh cranberries, orange, and champagne. Perfect for New Year’s Eve or any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 68 fresh cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice
  • Orange zest (for garnish)
  • 46 ounces chilled brut champagne or sparkling wine
  • Ice (optional)
  • Optional garnish: fresh rosemary sprig, orange slice, or whole cranberries

Instructions

  1. Place 6-8 fresh cranberries and 1 teaspoon sugar in a small bowl or wide glass. Muddle gently with a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon until cranberries release their juice (about 30 seconds).
  2. Add 1 tablespoon fresh orange juice and a small strip of orange zest to the muddled cranberries. Stir to combine.
  3. Place a fine-mesh strainer over a champagne flute. Pour the cranberry-orange mixture through the strainer, pressing gently with a spoon to extract all liquid. Discard solids.
  4. Slowly pour chilled champagne or sparkling wine into the glass, filling almost to the top. Stir gently with a long spoon.
  5. Garnish with a thin orange slice, a few whole cranberries, or a sprig of rosemary. Serve immediately.

Notes

Make sure champagne is well-chilled. Don’t over-muddle cranberries to avoid bitterness. For parties, make cranberry syrup in advance and store in the fridge for up to 3 days. Add champagne just before serving.
