A mysterious, smoky-sweet Halloween punch with a citrusy kick that’s perfect for parties. This easy recipe combines pineapple, orange, and lime juices with ginger ale and dark soda for a spooky, crowd-pleasing drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups (960 ml) pineapple juice
  • 2 cups (480 ml) orange juice
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 4 cups (960 ml) ginger ale
  • 2 cups (480 ml) dark soda (cola or Dr Pepper)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) simple syrup (optional)
  • A few drops green food coloring
  • A few drops purple food coloring
  • Ice ring or ice cubes
  • Gummy worms or spiders for garnish
  • Dry ice (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ice ring (can be done a day ahead): Fill your ice ring mold or bundt pan halfway with water. Arrange gummy worms and spiders in the water, then freeze for 2 hours. Add more water to fill the mold completely, then freeze overnight.
  2. Mix the juice base: In a large pitcher, combine 4 cups pineapple juice, 2 cups orange juice, and 1/2 cup fresh lime juice. Stir gently to combine.
  3. Add sweetener: Taste the juice mixture. If you prefer a sweeter punch, add 1/4 cup simple syrup. (Usually skipped because ginger ale adds enough sweetness.)
  4. Create the spooky color: In a small bowl, combine 3-4 drops green food coloring with 2 drops purple. Add a tablespoon of the juice mixture and stir until fully dissolved. Pour into the pitcher and stir well.
  5. Chill the base: Refrigerate the juice mixture for at least 2 hours, or up to 24 hours.
  6. Add carbonation: Just before serving, pour the chilled juice mixture into your punch bowl. Gently stir in 4 cups ginger ale and 2 cups dark soda. Stir slowly to preserve carbonation.
  7. Add the ice ring: Carefully remove the ice ring from the mold. Run warm water over the outside of the mold for 10 seconds to release it. Float the ring in the punch, creepy garnishes facing up.
  8. Prepare dry ice (if using): Using tongs, place a small piece of dry ice (about the size of a walnut) into the punch bowl. Never use more than one piece at a time, and never let anyone ingest dry ice.
  9. Final garnish: Scatter a few extra gummy worms around the edge of the bowl.
  10. Serve immediately: Ladle into cups, making sure no dry ice pieces end up in anyone’s glass. Best enjoyed within the first hour while carbonation is lively.

Notes

For best results, prepare the juice base the night before and chill thoroughly. Add carbonated drinks and ice ring just before serving. If using dry ice, handle with care—never with bare hands, and never ingest. For a non-carbonated version, replace ginger ale and dark soda with apple juice and lemon juice. For an adult version, add 2 cups dark rum or vodka.
