Festive Red White and Blue Layered Jello Cups

A quick and easy patriotic dessert featuring layers of red strawberry Jello, creamy white Cool Whip, and blue blueberry Jello, perfect for Fourth of July and other celebrations.

  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) strawberry-flavored Jello gelatin mix
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • ยฝ cup (120 ml) cold water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold water (for white layer gelatin bloom)
  • 1 package (8 oz / 226 g) Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) blueberry or berry-flavored Jello gelatin mix
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water (for blue layer)
  • ยฝ cup (120 ml) cold water (for blue layer)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Jello Layer: In a medium bowl, dissolve the strawberry gelatin mix in 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water. Stir for about 2 minutes until fully dissolved.
  2. Add ยฝ cup (120 ml) cold water to the mixture and stir gently.
  3. Pour a thin layer (about โ…“ cup / 80 ml) of the red Jello into each serving cup.
  4. Place cups in the refrigerator and chill for 30-40 minutes until the red layer is firm but slightly tacky.
  5. Prepare the White Cool Whip Layer: While the red layer chills, measure 1 cup (240 ml) cold water and sprinkle plain gelatin over the surface to bloom for 5 minutes.
  6. After blooming, heat the gelatin in the microwave for about 15 seconds until melted (do not boil).
  7. Let it cool slightly, then fold the melted gelatin gently into the 8 oz (226 g) Cool Whip until smooth.
  8. Remove the red layer cups from the fridge and spoon or pipe an even layer of the white Cool Whip mixture over the red Jello (about โ…“ cup / 80 ml per cup).
  9. Return to the fridge for 30 minutes to set the white layer.
  10. Prepare the Blue Jello Layer: Repeat the gelatin dissolving process with the blueberry Jello gelatin mix: 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water, stir 2 minutes, then add ยฝ cup (120 ml) cold water.
  11. Allow the blue gelatin mixture to cool to room temperature.
  12. Pour the blue layer gently over the set white layer in each cup.
  13. Chill for at least 2 hours or until fully firm before serving.

Notes

Pour each layer slowly over the back of a spoon to avoid mixing colors. Ensure each layer is set but slightly tacky before adding the next. Let gelatin cool to room temperature before layering to prevent melting the previous layer. Use clear cups for best presentation. Can substitute Cool Whip with coconut whipped topping for dairy-free option. Use agar-agar and plant-based whipped topping for vegan version.
