These easy rainbow fruit kabobs are a fun, colorful, and healthy snack that kids love. Made with fresh strawberries, pineapple, mandarin oranges, grapes, and blueberries on wooden skewers, they come together in under 15 minutes and are perfect for snack time, lunchboxes, or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup strawberries, hulled and halved (or quartered if large)
  • 1 cup fresh pineapple, cut into 1-inch chunks
  • 1 cup mandarin oranges, canned or fresh segments, drained well
  • 1 cup green grapes, seedless, washed and dried
  • 1 cup blueberries, fresh, washed and dried
  • 1 cup purple grapes, seedless, washed and dried
  • 810 wooden skewers (8 to 10 inches long)

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry all fruit. Rinse strawberries, blueberries, grapes, and any other fresh fruit under cool water. Pat them dry with paper towels.
  2. Prep the fruit. Hull the strawberries and cut them in half (or quarters if they’re large). Cut the pineapple into 1-inch chunks. Drain the mandarin oranges if using canned. Leave grapes and blueberries whole. Try to make all pieces roughly the same size—about 1 inch.
  3. Sort fruit by color. Place each fruit in a separate small bowl: red (strawberries), orange (mandarin oranges), yellow (pineapple), green (green grapes), blue (blueberries), purple (purple grapes).
  4. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 10 minutes to prevent splintering. Pat them dry before using.
  5. Assemble the kabobs. Start with a red fruit (strawberry half), then orange (mandarin segment), yellow (pineapple chunk), green (green grape), blue (blueberry), and purple (purple grape). Repeat the pattern until the skewer is full, leaving about 1 inch of space at the bottom for holding. Each skewer should have 2-3 complete rainbow sets.
  6. Repeat for remaining skewers until all fruit is used. You should get about 8-10 kabobs depending on the size of your fruit pieces.
  7. Serve immediately or chill. Arrange the kabobs on a platter in a fan pattern for a beautiful presentation. They’re best served within an hour of assembly. If making ahead, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 4 hours.

Notes

Use firm, slightly under-ripe fruit for best texture. Don’t press fruit too tightly on skewers to avoid bruising. For safety, snip off pointy tips of skewers with kitchen shears if kids are helping. Best assembled no more than an hour before serving. For a fun twist, serve with vanilla yogurt or honey-lime dip on the side.
