A quick and fun Halloween appetizer featuring a creamy ranch dip arranged in a spider web pattern, surrounded by fresh veggies and decorated with black sesame seed spiders. Perfect for parties and busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 12 tablespoons milk (optional, to thin)
  • 1 cup baby carrots
  • 1 cup celery sticks (cut into 3-inch pieces)
  • 1 cup cucumber slices
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup black olives
  • 2 tablespoons black sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for 20 minutes or microwaving on low for 10-15 seconds.
  2. In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with a hand mixer until smooth. Add sour cream and ranch seasoning, then beat until combined and fluffy. Add milk if needed to thin. Scrape into a small round bowl and smooth the top.
  3. Wash and dry all vegetables. Cut celery into 3-inch sticks, slice cucumber into rounds, break broccoli into small florets. Leave cherry tomatoes whole. Pat everything dry.
  4. Place the bowl of ranch dip in the center of a large round platter. Arrange the veggies around it in a circular pattern, grouping by color.
  5. Drizzle a thin spiral of ranch dip on top of the dip in the bowl, starting from the center and working outward. Use a toothpick to drag lines from the center outward through the spiral, creating web lines. Repeat 6-8 times, wiping the toothpick clean between drags.
  6. Sprinkle black sesame seeds randomly around the veggie tray. Place a few whole black olives on the tray to look like spider bodies.
  7. Serve immediately or chill. Best served within an hour of making. For make-ahead, keep dip and veggies separate until serving.

Notes

For best results, chill the dip for 15 minutes before drawing the web lines to prevent blurring. Dry veggies thoroughly to avoid a slippery platter. The dip can be made up to 2 days in advance.
