These Kid-Approved Two-Ingredient Cinnamon Apple Dumplings are a quick and easy dessert made with crescent roll dough and apples, baked with a cinnamon butter sauce until golden and tender. Perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • For the glaze (optional): 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1–2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your apples: peel, core, and cut each apple into 8 wedges (about 1/2 inch thick at the widest part).
  3. In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon cinnamon (and nutmeg if using). Stir to combine.
  4. Unroll the crescent roll dough on a clean cutting board. Separate into 8 triangles (or cut seamless sheet into 8 rectangles).
  5. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each crescent triangle. Roll up, tucking in the sides as you go. Place seam-side down in a greased 8×8 or 9×9 baking dish, leaving about 1/2 inch between each.
  6. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dumplings.
  7. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture evenly over the butter-drenched dumplings.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and apples are tender. Start checking at 18 minutes.
  9. Let cool for 5 minutes in the dish.
  10. For the glaze (optional): whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over warm dumplings.

Notes

Use cold crescent dough for easier handling. Don’t overfill the dumplings (one apple wedge per triangle). Space dumplings about 1/2 inch apart in the dish. Check for doneness early (start at 18 minutes). Let rest 5 minutes before serving to allow caramelized butter to set. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crescent roll dough. For dairy-free, substitute plant-based butter and dairy-free milk.
