A quick and easy appetizer featuring a creamy, spicy buffalo chicken filling encased in pillowy baked pretzel dough, finished with a glossy egg wash and coarse salt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (1 lb) refrigerated pretzel dough
  • 1 large egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or finely chopped
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup Frank’s RedHot sauce
  • 1/2 cup ranch dressing
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 cup blue cheese dressing or ranch dressing (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400ยฐF (200ยฐC) and line two large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, hot sauce, ranch dressing, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until smooth.
  3. Stir the shredded chicken into the cheese mixture until well combined.
  4. On a lightly floured surface, roll the pretzel dough into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  5. Cut the dough into 2-inch circles (yielding approximately 24-30 circles).
  6. Place a dough circle on your palm and spoon about 1 tablespoon of the filling into the center.
  7. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together at the top to seal the filling inside. Roll gently to smooth seams.
  8. Place the bites seam-side down on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Brush the tops of the bites with the egg wash and sprinkle generously with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown and puffed up.
  11. Immediately brush the hot bites with melted butter.
  12. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving warm with blue cheese or ranch dressing.

Notes

Ensure cream cheese is fully softened to prevent weak spots in the dough. Do not overfill the bites to avoid leaking. For extra crispiness, broil for the last 1-2 minutes. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3 days or frozen unbaked for up to 3 months.
