This Budget-Friendly Green Witches Brew Punch tastes exactly like a beloved café version, maybe even better. It costs pennies to make compared to fancy store-bought Halloween drinks and is the kind of drink that makes your Halloween party feel magical without making your wallet cry.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 quart lime sherbet
  • 2 liters lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite or 7Up)
  • 2 cups pineapple juice (unsweetened)
  • 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 23 lemons)
  • A few drops green food coloring (optional)
  • 46 cups ice cubes
  • Gummy worms or spiders for garnish (optional)
  • 1 small block dry ice for spooky fog effect (optional, handle with care)

Instructions

  1. Chill everything first: Put your lemon-lime soda and pineapple juice in the fridge at least 2 hours before you start.
  2. Squeeze your lemons: Roll each lemon on the counter with your palm before cutting. Cut in half and squeeze into a small bowl. Strain out any seeds. You should get about 1/4 cup per lemon.
  3. Set up your punch bowl: Place your punch bowl or dispenser in the center of your serving area. If using dry ice, put on gloves and handle it carefully—never touch it with bare skin! Add the dry ice to the bottom of the bowl before anything else.
  4. Add the pineapple juice: Pour 2 cups of chilled pineapple juice into the bowl. Give it a quick stir with your wooden spoon.
  5. Add the lemon juice: Pour in the 1/2 cup of fresh lemon juice. Stir gently to combine. The mixture should look pale yellow at this point.
  6. Add the lemon-lime soda: Slowly pour in the 2 liters of chilled soda. Pour it down the side of the bowl to keep the fizz from exploding everywhere.
  7. Add the green color: If using food coloring, add 3-4 drops and stir. Add more if you want a deeper green. The sherbet will add some color too, so don’t go overboard.
  8. Add the lime sherbet: Scoop the entire quart of lime sherbet into the bowl. Use large spoonfuls so it floats on top like a green iceberg. Don’t stir it in completely—let it melt slowly for that creamy effect.
  9. Add ice: Gently add 4-6 cups of ice cubes around the edges. Don’t dump them in the center or you’ll splash everywhere.
  10. Garnish and serve: If using gummy worms, drape them over the edge of the bowl so they look like they’re crawling out. Serve immediately with punch cups or glasses.

Notes

For best results, freeze some lemon-lime soda in ice cube trays to use instead of regular ice—this keeps the punch fizzy and cold without diluting. Don’t stir the sherbet completely; let it float on top for a layered effect. Add the soda just before serving to maintain fizz. For a dairy-free version, use lime sorbet instead of sherbet. For an adult version, add 1 cup of vodka or white rum.
