A bright, fresh cranberry sauce with orange and cinnamon that’s quick and easy to make. Perfect for Thanksgiving or year-round use on pancakes, yogurt, or roasted pork chops.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 ounces (340 grams) fresh cranberries
  • ¾ cup (150 grams) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (120 ml) fresh orange juice (from about 1 large navel orange)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest (from about 1 orange)
  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions

  1. Combine fresh cranberries, granulated sugar, fresh orange juice, fresh orange zest, and a cinnamon stick in a medium pot.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
  3. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cranberries have burst and the sauce has thickened slightly.
  4. Remove from heat and let it cool. The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick before serving. Serve warm or chilled.

Notes

For a tarter sauce, reduce sugar to ½ cup. Frozen cranberries can be used without thawing. The sauce is better after sitting overnight, as flavors meld. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
